To calculate hours worked, subtract your clock-in time from your clock-out time, then subtract any unpaid break time. For example, clocking in at 9:00 AM and out at 5:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch break = 8 hours worked. Our time card calculator does this automatically for each day of the week.
Overtime pay rules: Federal law requires overtime pay of at least 1.5x the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states have additional rules — California, for example, requires overtime for hours over 8 in a single day. Always check your state and employer's specific overtime policies.
